THE USE OF ICT IN TEACHING IN LOWER SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN KOSOVO
Abstract
In the field of education in Kosovo there are taking place various reforms. These reforms are closely connected with general development of science, technology, and information technology. Especially ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is being paid a special attention because today, without the use of ICT cannot be imagined an overall development of a modern society. Since the technology is accepted as something inevitable in the education system there are becoming preparation and rehabilitation efforts of teachers in this respect. Using new tools of information and communication technology, e.g. CD-ROM, The Internet, of packages of software and various computer applications, positively affects educational environments. This study aims showing how it applies ICT teaching in lower secondary schools in Kosovo. Teachers involved in this research are teachers of different schools, including rural and urban ones. To accomplish the research there are used quantitative and qualitative methods. Questionnaires and interviews have been the main instruments in research. There have been interviewed 120 male and female teachers. Their age and their work experiences in teaching are also different. Results of the survey show a great interest of teachers to use ICT in teaching, but, according to the analysis of these data this research of use ICT in teaching is not at on appropriate level. Publication of these results will affect the Kosovo society awareness of the role and importance of the ICT use to prepare young people to participate and be useful in a modern society. Based on these results of our research we can say that ICT effects the improvement of quality and efficiency, not only in teaching but also in learning all subjects. It provides opportunities to students to increase their knowledge and obtain interesting information which ones lack in textbooks, and even in other educational settings, etc.
