THE ROLE OF MASSMEDIA IN CONFLICT DYNAMICS AND ITS IMPLICATIONS
Abstract
The conflict resolution and prevention is still developing challenge for the Diplomacy. The Concept of The Multi Track Diplomacy concentrates attention to the role of media. The main role of the media is through the press, television and electronic media to inform and involve the public in discussions on peace and conflict resolution. This Track of the Multi Track Diplomacy Concept is based on the assumption that the engagement in national conflicts, it is necessary to inform the public about the state and development of the situation in remote corners of the world. The media in general are shaped public opinion and vice versa public has a liberal democratic countries through the media the opportunity to express their opinion on the issue. Ultimately, the free discussions is the impact that the media and public opinion on policy decisions evolve in power. Most attempts to bridge the worlds of conflict resolution and social media have until today been conducted by individual peacemakers or concerned bloggers. Despite good intentions, these are localized and short-term initiatives that lack adequate resources or methodology to conduct a long-term study identifying trends and dynamics. At the same time, the efforts to use social media for dehumanization of each other and conflict escalation enjoy institutional and financial support of governments and security apparatuses of the conflicting sides.
