Abstract

The quality of teachers, the training of initial teachers and professional development, seems to be the challenges of the national education systems, in many developing countries. Changing the Kosovo education system was necessary due to the new circumstances of social and political development of Kosovo. This study provides an analysis of the work of the Kosovar schools and the impact of teacher professional development activities in improving school performance. For data collection we used the structured interview with two school principals, two officials from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (sector of teacher training and inspection) with an education expert and a representative of the Teacher's Union. Research questions are framed to investigate complex phenomena, issues discussion as: How was reflected professional development of teachers and "their readiness to change", on the Kosovar school improvement process ? What is the contribution of teachers in the development of contemporary Kosovar school ,,a different school "?; How Kosovar teachers can contribute to the development of contemporary school?. Study shows lack of reflective culture, among teachers in Kosovo, in which case they do not discuss role they have in improving the work of the school, about their commitment on professional development activities and their effect in improving performance of the school in the community. The findings show the efforts to develop modern school in Kosovo, but it does not record a any great result.
