IMPACT OF LEGAL TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS ON ROMANIAN TOURISM

Abstract

The tourism of the last 60 years has been constantly expanding and diversifying, becoming one of the most dynamic and largest economic sectors globally speaking. According to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), between May and August 2016 in Romania, 3.8 million Romanians and 1 million foreigners have spent their holidays, twice as many as 6 years ago. Regarding foreign tourists who visited our country during the summer, most of them, more than half a million come from Germany. The following places include tourists from Italy, Israel, France, USA. A major legal issue in Romanian tourism concerns the granting of visas for both foreign tourists and Romanians, who have both incoming and outgoing tourism. Incoming tourism is export-oriented tourism that brings money to Romania. And government authorities are interested in developing and supporting it. Outgoing tourism remains a private issue, a market that needs to be sustained and developed by the travel agencies involved. For incoming tourism we expect not only coherent statistics, but also an improvement in the way the MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) gives visas to tourists who want to enter Romania. We hope for more transparency and efficiency in obtaining visas so that we can get much easier in the country, both Chinese tourists and tourists from Arab countries or from Moldova and even from Russia.
