THE SCHOOL REFORM EFFECTS AND CHALLENGES IN TEACHERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (THE TEACHER'S VOICE)
Abstract
The reform of the education system in Kosovo, determines needs to change the system of preparation and training of teachers. To realize the objectives of this reform, should first to explore the potential of Kosovar teachers - their position and role, the opportunities for their preparation, to made clear responsibilities and their role that will have to implement the changes, well analyzed barriers to be overcome since the beginning. As part of school reform, to increase the quality of education, were planned trainings of teachers in service, new methodologies of teaching. This time period is considered as very stressful for Kosovar teachers. In this qualitative research, the organization of discussions was made with teachers in focus groups to gather experiences, views of in-service teachers, who are following the program Advancing Teacher Training at the Faculty of Education at the University of Prishtina. On focus groups was used file of questions such as: What were the challenges, difficulties in the professional domain, which are facing in the process of implementation of school reform?. From the development of discussion emerged experiences, attitudes, how teachers perceive their performance professional development determined by school reform. Data was gathered, became the definition of problems, determination of priority problems and the formation of trunks of problems. The study shows lack of proper programs of professional development, non inclusive approach for participation on professional development programs, poor quality of professional development programs. Lack of proper planning of the training dynamics, in cooperation with parties with interest in this process, also brought up the experiences of dissatisfaction in the profession of teaching.
