INSERTION ON THE LABOR MARKET OF THE HIGHER EDUCATION GRADUATES. A CASE STUDY IN ROMANIA

Abstract

“Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad took part in a large scale monitoring study that focused on the university graduates all-over the country. The national study was performed for 18 universities targeting the graduates and their insertion on the labour market. A national database was set-up and data-processing was performed, involving the entire amount of data. After consolidating the results, the central database was split-up and delivered to the universities for their own data-processing and conclusions. This paper presents the data and a set of results extracted from the study, namely the part of data and data-processing that refers to the graduates of “Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad and their post-graduate professional activity. The aim of the study is to make correlations between the acquired competencies through the university education and the professional level that correspond to the graduates’ position on the labour market – by getting hired, developing an own business and/or studying further. The data were collected through an on-line complex questionnaire designed by the project co-ordinator and adapted by each university to its particular needs. The monitoring process was based exclusively on the data furnished by the graduates through the questionnaire. The questionnaire was applied to graduates 2005 and 2009, former students that are already inserted in the labour market. Considerations on the data gathering and data processing are included while analysing the socio-professional integration of the graduates in the period of 5-10 years after concluding their university studies. General and specific statistic methods were used, with SPSS and MS-Excel implementation.
