THE INFLUENCE OF THE NON-VERBAL LANGUAGE AND BEHAVIOR ON THE TEACHER-STUDENT RELATION IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORT IN HIGHER EDUCATION
Abstract
For an efficient dialogue, the teacher needs not just to know and understand the student, but especially to be able to communicate to him the way he feels and understands him, the empathic ability being the one that makes the action itself possible. The present study consists in determining the extent to which the non-verbal communication between teachers and students has beneficial effects on the teaching approach. The study was realized during the university year 2006-2007, on a number of 490 subjects, out of which 315 were students of the bachelor program of Physical Education and Sports and 175 were teachers of the specialized higher education of this domain. We used classic methods such as the study of the specialized documents, conversation, questionnaire-based survey, statistical-mathematical method, graphic representation. The questionnaire included a number of 15 items and was filled in by 478 subjects, namely 97.55\% of all the people invited to participate to the survey. Regarding the influence of a good communication between students and teachers, concerning the educative process, 100\% of the respondents are aware of the fact that it assures the premises leading to the creation of a favorable framework in this sense. Regarding the contribution of the disciplines in the academic curriculum to the creation of the communication and personal development skills and abilities, most of the respondents (47.56\%) opt for the specialized disciplines, on the second place in the answers being situated the domain of psychology and education sciences(27.44\%), while 13.5\% of the interviewees opt for the disciplines of the medical domain, and the rest of 6.5\% state that the complementary disciplines are very important, which actually confirms the interdisciplinary character of the domain. The non-verbal language has positive influences in the stabilization of the relation teacher-student, according to 68.8\% of the respondents. Following the realization of this study, more precisely after the analysis of the answers provided by the subjects, it has become evident that both the students and the teachers have the capacity to distinguish elements of the non-verbal language, a thing influencing them in the adoption of a positive attitude both towards the discipline studied/taught, and towards the teacher /student.
