SOME ASPECTS OF THE DISCIPLE'S FIGURE IN THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATHEW
Abstract
This paper is focused on both the anthropological and biblical theme. The work aims to present a few aspects of the disciple's figure in the Bible, especially in the Gospel of Saint Mathew. In the Gospels, the disciples followed the Saviour and were witnesses of his wonderful words and deeds. After they learned at the school of Jesus, they were sent to continue the work of spreading God's Kingdom. With respect to the theme, the first step is analytical: some general elements of the identity regarding the discipleship in the Holy Scripture based on the analysis of the concept in the Old and New Testament. The second step will be the exegesis of a representative text from the Gospel: Matthew 28:16-20. The fragment reflects an image of the apprenticeship in being and in actions. In the end some theological reflections are suggested as well as an actualization to the situation at the beginning of this millennium. The study highlights the peculiarity of biblical discipleship, keeping in mind the historical context. Initially, to be a disciple is to be and live with the Rabbi. Afterwards, the disciple follows and imitates the Master. These pages could be an instrument for the people that aim to understand the particular aspects of the old apprenticeship. This concept could be regarded nowadays from an educational point view. How actual are the elements of the biblical discipleship in our learning process?
