HOW DO WE USE THE “PAST” FOR “FUTURE”: AN EXEMPLARY STUDY REGARDING FURNITURE DESIGNS
Abstract
This study aims to highlight how the historical background of furniture design affect the present approaches in “newly” developed designs in Turkey. With this purpose, the historical background of furniture design has been briefly reviewed in order to shed light to the further studies, and to make an analysis on the current trends in terms of consistency in design. Within this context, some recent furniture designs (called “avant-garde” in the market) were taken into consideration to identify the most common elements that dominate that current design trend. This study is expected to put forward some suggestions regarding the upcoming trends for innovative furniture designs.
