READINESS OF STUDENTS TO USE M-LEARNING IN EDUCATION - CASE STUDY SLOVAKIA
Abstract
Smart mobile devices started to be affordable and the massive use on educational processes is expected in the near future. By the end of 2014, the number of mobile-connected devices will exceed the number of people on Earth. Contemporary educational level of social development approves the necessity of M-learning as a parallel method to the traditional methods of education. The main objective of the research is to identify the readiness of students in the Slovak republic to participate in the learning process using m-learning. In the survey, we focused on the availability of mobile devices among students, the typical activities that students carry through these devices and the subjective perception of the students for the implementation of M-learning in the educational process in the context of Slovak educational system. Information and communication technology and in particular the Internet have a great impact on the availability, re-usability, accessibility and cost of teaching materials. The growing availability of mobile broadband has increased customer expectations for quality mobile networks. Speed extension of m-learning and its implementation into education systems is not solely determined by the quality and availability of mobile networks, it is necessary to take into account many other factors, including options of the mobile device and also user preferences and capabilities.
