Abstract

Nowadays, universities play an important role in research, development and generation of technologies as well as in regional development. In the direction of increasing the creative economy, the university, as a research center, a technology maker, is becoming the main core of economic growth. The study aims to analyze the dynamics of the creative economy in the university centers in Romania, the objective of the research being the evaluation of the creative capacity of each university center. It was created a database of relevant indicators for the creative economy and total local economy (number of companies, number of employees, turnover and profit). The analysis interval is 2000-2016 and the basic indicators have been analyzed at the level of the administrative-territorial unit at the four-digit NACE code (Classification of National Economy Activities). The results obtained support the hypothesis of the fundamental role of universities in the development of creative economies in Romania.
