Abstract

Large shopping centres already provide not only the purchase function in the traditional sense, but the philosophy of their existence is based on the multi-functionality, which creates possibility for maximizing the length of customers stay in shopping centres associated with the increase in the average expenditure on purchase of goods and services. In addition to their regular shopping function, visiting the shopping centre has become an opportunity for various social occasions and a place of leisure time activities, whether at the cinema, the bowling, the fitness centre or just an opportunity to meet friends in a restaurant, cafe or at a bar. This trend is increasing because shopping centres are trying to create positive experience for their visitors to make them come back to the shopping galleries. Shopping centre is considered to be a tourist destination by several authors due to its range of services, events and attractiveness that create the appropriate recreational potential for the development of urban tourism. Shopping centres are becoming a place of fun and leisure time activities especially during free days and weekends. Based on the survey performed, the paper focuses on the identification of the common and distinct features of visitors' shopping behaviour in Aupark Shopping Centre and shopping centre Atrium Optima in the context of the diversity of their services offered and location within the city of Kosice.
