RHYTHMIC GAMES AND THEIR ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN'S COORDINATIVE CAPACITIES
Abstract
Background. In Romania, the current knowledge regarding primary school children psychomotor development has a had multi-gapped approach, due to the fact that, until 2011, physical education in primary schools was not taught by physical education teachers. The outstanding differences observed between the trained and untrained children show with accuracy that, although coordination abilities are largely genetically determined and are considered having a low prospects of changing through training, the development potential exists in all children. The main problem is the existence of insufficient appropriate training means for the primary school children age group. Methods. We believe that an objective application of a development program (especially rhythmic games) to enhance the coordination capacities, at this age, can only be achieved by appropriate technical means, with a modulation and a program improvement. We applied games and rhythmic themes on a group of pupils (n = 60), aged between 6-10, during the physical education lessons (2 times per week). The children were tested before and at the end of the work programs application. Results. At the end of the study (after 8 months) we noticed the improved anterior and posterior flexibility, the general coordination and the abdomen muscular strength, at the end of the study all statistical parameters indicating a favorable trend for these studied parameters. Conclusions. Physical education, through its objectives and content, has always been a social activity that enhances the individual biological support to help the individual characteristics improvement, the primary school age representing the optimal stage when the main physical coordinates can be better controlled through physical activities and, especially, rhythmic games.
