RUSSIAN MEAT MARKET: STATE AND TRENDS WITH THE ACCOUNT OF INTER-COUNTRY COMPARISONS
Abstract
The article is devoted to integrated assessment of state and tendencies of Russian meat market. As demand-supply situation at Russian meat market is closely related to the external environment factors and to the world market of meat, in our paper, the results of generalization of the world market tendencies were presented taking into consideration both segments of the developed and developing countries. For integrated assessment of Russian position at the world market of meat and for inter-country comparisons, we proposed to use cluster analysis to develop multivariate classification of the countries being the major meat producers. The classification results made it possible both to reveal three clusters of the countries with similarities and common problems in the development of the meat market, and to determine the position of Russia in the obtained categorizing. With the purpose of evaluation of the revealed cluster structure stability, comparison of the results, which were obtained within the period of 2000-2013, was carried out. Detailed explanation of the revealed countries' displacement between the clusters was presented. During the whole investigated period, Russia was placed in the cluster, where average values of indices being analyzed were lower as compared to appropriate values of the cluster of the countries-world market leaders. With the purpose of detailed description of the Russian meat market development trends, the dynamics for the major indices of market demand-supply situation were described. Structural variations of the Russian meat market volume indices were revealed.
