A FINANCIAL ANALYSIS OF THE TELECOM SECTOR
Abstract
The analysis of companies' financial situation represents one of the main problems within organizations. Bankruptcy risk has determined financial analysts to develop analytical models in order to eliminate or minimize this risk. Among the most important assessment models of financial risk there are Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Cluster Analysis and Multiple Discriminant Analysis (MDA). Based on the MDA, Altman [1] developed a method for estimating the risk degree of an organization in terms of bankruptcy, called the Z-Score. In this paper, the authors apply the calculation methodology of Z-Score as it was proposed by Altman in the sector of mobile phone services in Romania. The paper also presents the evolution of bankruptcy risk of companies operating in the mentioned sector during 2009-2013.
