TO RISK OR NOT RISK IN LIFE INSURANCE – TRADITIONAL VERSUS UNITLINKED PRODUCTS IN ROMANIA
Abstract
The financial crisis from 2008 reduced severly the interest of the population to sign life insurance, in spite of a slow increase in the probability of diseases, illnesses and even death. The risk appetite of the potential customers of life insurance also suffered a severe blow when unitlinked portfolios registered severe losses, so that the majority of life products chose and are still choosing traditional products in Romania, and even then only if they really need it. The paper intends to express the main factors linked to quality of live, education and financial power of the Romanian population when deciding what type of life insurance to take upon- the analysis is interesting from the point of view of attractiveness of the customer and potential development of sales strategies of the insurance companies.
