ASSESSMENT IN THE BUSINESS COMMUNICATION CLASS: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES
Abstract
This article tackles assessment in the Business Communication class, looking at current practices in the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi, in BA and MA programmes in International Business and Business Administration, and suggesting new ways of evaluating students’ so-called “soft” skills. The author argues for assessment as a learning tool, which engages students as individuals and as members of teams, and proposes that collaborative assessment can better prepare future graduates for the job market. Starting from successful assessment methods described in the relevant literature, the article presents ways in which a transfer of good practices can be achieved in the Romanian/Balkan context, highlighting the implied challenges and opportunities in the current institutional efforts at the internationalization of higher education.
