THE IMPLEMENTATION CHALLENGES OF THE BOLOGNA PROCESS IN THEOLOGICAL ORTHODOX UNIVERSITY EDUCATION IN ROMANIA – THE DIALOGUE BETWEEN CHURCH AND STATE
Abstract
The beginning of the year 2007 is, for Romania, a crucial moment of regaining its place of European Nation with equal rights in an united Europe. Apart from the earned rights, after becoming a member of the European Union, our country has to fulfill a number of various obligations, including the adaptation of the education requirement criteria demanded by the European forums. Thus the university education complied with the European reforms in this field and adapted its analytical programs and curricula to the 3-2-3 system, recommended by the Bologna Convention. A very special case was the Orthodox Theological university education that has a specific statute, because of the fact that it depends on two decision institutional factors: the Orthodox Church and the State. For this reason, the implementation of the new reformed system had to satisfy the requirements of those two decisional institutes. In our study we have analyzed the statute of the Bologna Convention, its requirements, the stage of implementation in the European countries and the decisions taken after the periodical conferences concerning this particular process. We also presented the general situation of the Theological Orthodox University education in Romania, since the 1989 Revolution until today, regarding the organization way and the transformation in this period of time, and also the adaptation of decisions to the European requirements through the implementation of the Bologna process. We have analyzed the dialogue between the Church and State and the legislative decisions taken for the successfully implementation of this process of standardization of the European university education system, dialogue which represents a model of collaboration between the State and Church institutions, for all the situations in which the theological university education is financed by public funds.
