THE ROLE OF AGE IN A PARTICIPATIVE METHODOLOGY FOR DESIGNING PLAY AREAS
Abstract
Considering the user's importance during the creation process in design and the fact that we live in a society where diversity reigns, in order to have a greater guarantee of success in a project, it is imperative to use a participatory methodology. However, when those users are children under school age it is necessary to pay special attention to possible necessary adjustments, especially from the point of view of communication. It is intended to build a communication code focused on child audience so that it can be implemented in a recreational area destined for children. Although all the data collection process is adapted to children between 3 and 5 years, it is important to understand whether age becomes an impediment to participate effectively in the research. With this purposed, it was created an association game between the visual elements of design (color, shape and texture) and the following situations: permitted, prohibited and danger. For the first two elements (color and shape) were created two moments of association in order to check if the child shows consistency in responses. In both moments the same question is posed using two different approaches. This article will only present the association results made with colors. It was verified that the responses of three years old not only differ from other ages as well as demonstrate inconsistency between both moments.
