The article describes functioning of phraseological units of the Russian and English languages in scientific and artistic discourses. Scientific and artistic types of discourse manifest almost diametrically opposed features. The research shows that stylistically neutral phraseological units and praseologisms-euphemisms prevail in scientific discourse. Emotional phraseologisms occur, but seldom.
