The most prominent period of Hungarian history in arts and science was during the reign of King Matthias (1443-1490). His humanist upbringing, his education and his political successes made him a renowned ruler of his time. In parallel with the emergence of Italian early Renaissance gardens, royal and ecclesiastical gardens were established in the Kingdom of Hungary.
