THE EFFECT OF (CLASSICAL) MUSIC ON CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR. A CASE STUDY OF CLOTHES SHOP

(SGEM World Science, 2021, Nowadays music has become an inseparable element of modern audiomarketing strategies. It is intentionally introduced into commercial spaces to influence consumer behaviour by triggering appropriate physiological, affective and cognitive responses. In order to determine the possible selected dependencies, experimental studies were carried out in natural conditions in one of the chain clothing stores located in a shopping mall in Warsaw, where an audiomarketing strategy is implemented on a daily basis. Three situations were examined: without music, with instrumental classical music and with vocal-instrumental popular music. The research was conducted for three days, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., in a system of floating modules, so as to take into account the different traffic of customers at specific times. Due to the specificity of the brand perceived as a family store with an assortment intended for children, women and men of all ages, the obtained results were analysed together (N = 246). The following aspects were measured: the number of people who entered the store in a given module, the number of people who made purchases, the structure of purchases and the value of purchases (total and average). The results showed that the largest percentage of consumers decided to buy during the condition with popular music (day I – 58%, day II – 67%, day III – 68%). However, in total, the store achieved the highest profits when classical music sounded. At that time, consumers decided to choose higher-priced and "high-end" items. The obtained results are discussed in the context of the psychological knowledge activation effect, the psychobiological theory of musical preference and the hierarchical model of musical semantics. The overall discourse leads to the ethical doubts regarding the deliberate introduction of peripheral auditory stimuli into commercial spaces.)

NAVIGATION OR LAYOUT? ELEMENTS OF WEB DESIGN AND THEIR COMBINATION ON HIGH-RANK PAGES OF UNIVERSITY WEB PORTALS

(STEF92 Technology, 2019, S. S. Bodrunova, S. L. Sergeev, I. S. Blekanov, A. S. Yakunin)

TodayВ’s research upon efficiency of user interaction with large web portals has established links between webpage popularity and crucial elements of webpage design, such as page layout and navigation on the portal, or, more narrowly, menu design. But despite their established importance, the two aforementioned elements of web design are next to never studied together, and their relative roles in rising webpage ranks are virtually unknown. In this paper, we assess pages with high betweenness centrality within the ...

TOPIC MODELING FOR TWITTER DISCUSSIONS: MODEL SELECTION AND QUALITY ASSESSMENT

(STEF92 Technology, 2019, S. S. Bodrunova, I. S. Blekanov, M. Kukarkin)

Topic modeling is a method of automated definition of subtopics in a text corpus. Usage of topic modeling for short texts, e.g. tweets, is highly complicated due to their short length and grammatical restructuring, including broken word order, abbreviations, and contamination of different languages. In this paper, the authors use the BTM topic modelling algorithm (previously found to work best in comparison with two other topic models measured by automated coherence metrics Umass and NPMI) to test three topic qual...

TRADITIONALISTS VS. INNOVATORS: FRAGMENTATION OF JOURNALISTIC CULTURES IN TODAYВ’S RUSSIAN JOURNALISM

(STEF92 Technology, 2018, S. S. Bodrunova, K. Nigmatullina)

Today’s comparative analysis of professional journalistic cultures has quite developed methodologies but relies on national level of comparison, which might be misleading. We test whether, in Russia of 2010s, the structure of professional journalistic community is as diverse and fragmented as the media system itself – and, thus, whether it can be perceived as a whole, unlike journalistic cultures in the West. The cleavages include generational ones as well as value-based ones, the latter being reflected in jour...

URBAN REDEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES FOR HOSPITAL AREAS – NEW FUNCTIONS AND USES

(STEF92 Technology, 2018, K. Kristianova, S. Basova)

Hospitals and hospital complexes represent an important function in the urban fabric of cities. As usually closed and impassable areas, they have specific requirements for a good accessibility and for a constant implementation of innovations in healthcare and technologies. Old hospital complexes situated in city centres and their outdated hospital buildings are often not able to adopt the advances in healthcare and they become dysfunctional. New modern hospital complexes are developed in more suitable urban locati...
