ARTEMIA SP. BIOTESTER AND THE UV SHIELD FACTOR OF FLOWERS SOFT EXTRACT OF ELAEAGNUS ANGUSTIFOLIA L.

(STEF92 Technology, 2014, Laura Bucur, Verginica Schroder)

The exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation cause oxidative stress translated by the appearance of ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species), which contributes to disease occurrence. The chemical natural compounds, such as polyphenols, present an antioxidant activity and may be used in the inhibition of the oxidative stress generated by ROS. Also, they may be used as UV shield. The flowers soft extract of Elaeagnus angustifolia L. contents polyphenol compounds such as flavonoids and phenolcarboxylic acids and it has an antioxi...

PATHOPHYSIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF INTOXICATION WITH CYANOGEN SUBSTANCES

(STEF92 Technology, 2014, Gabriela Lilios, Gheorghe Taralunga, Mariana Arcus, Ramona M. Stoicescu, Verginica Schroder)

The highest quantity of cyanogen compounds in the environment results mainly from human activities (ore extraction, cleaning and hardening metals, galvanization etc). People with metabolic disorders in cyanide conversion to thiocyanide show a higher risk of intoxication with cyanogen substances. Some deficient diets may increase the risk to cyanide exposure. Thiocyanide, the main metabolite of cyanide, cause endemic goiter in humans and animals. In the studies, orally administrated cyanide and thiocyanide to rats,...

THE CYTOTOXICITY STUDY OF THE COMMON PHARMACEUTICAL OR FOOD ADDITIVE

(STEF92 Technology, 2014, Verginica Schroder, Adriana Laura Bucur, Georgiana Pavalache)

This work has revealed dates about cytotoxic potential of benzoic acid (E210), citric acid (E330) and sodium phosphate (E339) currently used as pharmaceutical or food additive. The testing was made in experimental conditions with nauplius larvae of Artemia sp., brine shrimp biotester method. The Artemia salina bioassay was chosen because it is versatile, viable, fast and low cost screening assay. Furthermore, there is a good correlation between the in vivo and the in vitro tests, and this method is a useful tool f...

THE IDENTIFICATION OF NATURAL ACTIVE PRINCIPLES WITH IMPLICATION IN GASTRIC CYTOPROTECTION

(STEF92 Technology, 2014, Mariana Arcus, Gabriela Lilios, Verginica Schroder, Ramona M. Stoicescu)

It is known that complex polysaccharides (polyuronides) are natural macromolecular compounds located in all the plant organs in special histological formations (cells and canals), as well as in the external seminal tegument. In contact with water, they form colloidal solutions or gels. Under the action of the intestinal flora they are split and form a protective film for mucous membranes as well as create a pH unfavorable for the development of the pathogenic microbial flora involved in the degradation of the inte...
