Between 1697 and 1708, Prince Giovanni Gastone de’ Medici (or Gian Gastone) and Anna Maria Francesca of Saxe-Lauenburg, his consort, resided in Bohemia in the hopes of conceiving a child and perpetuating the Medici dynasty.
