The contribution focuses on literary phenomenon of bad mother in 21st century novels written by authors born in former GDR. Both selected novels deal with some kind of raven mother’s behaviour witnessed by the writer in person or conveyed by close relative of the writer showing how historical events might lead to refusal of the principal woman’s role – being mother.
