The lexical-semantic group of nouns with the metaphorical meaning of quantity in English and Russian is characterized in the article from the viewpoint of connotational markedness. The study uses the method of dictionary definitions, the method of continuous sampling, the method of componential analysis, the method of contrastive analysis, the descriptive method.
